"Anniversary" (YME-7, total time 56'38") features live recordings made to mark the Orchestra's establishment in 1988. It is conducted by its founding conductor, Matthew Krel, in Franck's Panis Angelicus, Brahms' Alto Rhapsody and Ave Maria, Borodin's Polovtsian Dances and Shostakovich's work of youthful exuberance, Hypothetically Murdered, a vaudeville score re-constructed relatively recently after not being heard for near 60 years.

The Art of Improvisation

"The Art of Improvisation" (YME-8, total time 60'57") contains premieres of two Australian works commissioned by The SBS Youth Orchestra: Julian Lee's Don Burrows Suite (1991) and Judy Bailey's Four Reasons (2000), which were premiered by giants of jazz Don Burrows and James Morrison respectively. Completing the improvisation theme, Mozart's Piano Concerto No.23 K.488 gives soloist Alexander Gavrilyuk great creative freedom in its cadenzas.
